Unspoiled coastal beauty and quiet, historically rich towns make a trip to the state’s Panhandle a vacation to treasure. Although summertime typically is popular for visitors here, a gentle change of seasons means your visit will be pleasant any time you choose. Active visitors to this region of the state will find plenty of opportunities to golf, go boating, snorkel, dive, enjoy world-renowned fishing or simply go beach combing. In addition to its beaches, Northwest Florida is home to some of the most beautiful lakes, bays and rivers in the state and the “Old Florida” charm that has long drawn visitors.

Florida’s eastern Panhandle, otherwise known as the Capital Region, has more in common with

neighbors Alabama and Georgia than most of the rest of Florida. The area is a mix of subtropical delights and antebellum charm. Tallahassee, Florida’s capital, is geographically closer to Atlanta than Miami. It exudes the charm of a small Southern city with its oak-canopied roads, colorful azaleas and rolling hills. Visiting RVers will enjoy touring the seat of state government, including the Old Capitol, restored to its 1902 American Renaissance splendor with red candy-striped awnings and stained-glass dome. Behind the historic capitol is the New Capitol, complete with a 22nd-floor observation deck offering a 360-degree view of the area, including, on a clear day, the shimmering blue Gulf of Mexico many miles to the south.
